ChATTAhoochee Doubles Classic (The Hooch)

The ChATTAhoochee Doubles Classic ("The Hooch") is ATTA’s club championship tournament, held each Spring. The Hooch will be held the weekend of March 10-12, which is the weekend before Spring ALTA begins. We will have Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles at various levels of competition. Since The Hooch is ATTA’s club championship tournament, at least one member of each pair must be a current 2017 ATTA member.

Please contact the Tournament Directors (, if you have any questions regarding The Hooch.

• Schedule •

The Hooch begins Friday at 6:00pm at Sharon Lester Tennis Center at Piedmont Park (SLAPP), with possible overflow courts TBD Friday night only. Play may start as early as 8am and may go as late as 11pm on Saturday and on Sunday; that said, we will try to keep the schedule between 9am and 8pm.

If you are playing in the ALTA Mixed City Finals that weekend, we will schedule around that. If you are not available to play on Friday night, we will schedule around that. However, if you request either of these, you are LIMITED TO ONE EVENT because there simply isn’t enough time to schedule you for two events with a restricted schedule.

If you chose 2 events, your schedule may look something like this, one match on Friday night, 3 matches on Saturday and 3 matches on Sunday (total of 7 matches for the tournament). No one should have to play 4 or more matches in a single day.

• Registration Deadline •

The registration deadline is Wednesday, March 1—no exceptions. By that time, you must let us know if you’ll be unavailable on Friday night or due for ALTA Mixed Doubles City Finals. We cannot plan around schedule conflicts unless we know well in advance.

It is your responsibility to get your doubles partner to register by the deadline. If you are unpaired after March 1, you may choose to play with another unpaired person or withdraw (full refund if withdrawn before the draw is posted).

Men's and Women's doubles events will be capped at 16 pairs each. Mixed doubles events will be limited to 8 pairs in each division. If a division is full, we will put you on a wait list. FYI, 4 of the 5 Mixed Doubles events were full last year. So sign up before your division is filled so you don't miss out on a chance to play in the tournament!

• Events •

Men's Doubles: 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 and Open (Using men’s combined USTA/NTRP ratings.)
Women’s Doubles: 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 and Open (Using women’s combined USTA/NTRP ratings.)
Mixed Doubles: 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 and Open (Combining players’ USTA/NTRP ratings.)
We will honor an event when there are 3 or more pairs for an event.

If you do not have a USTA/NTRP rating, you can rate yourself. If you are listed on the USTA "Low lists," i.e. 3.5 Low, 4.0 Low and 4.5 Low, your arithmetic conversion would be 3.25, 3.75 and 4.25, respectively. The Hooch committee reserves the right to rate you based on other available data that we may have (i.e. GLTA tournaments, Ultimate Tennis, T2, League Tennis, ALTA, etc.)

• Fees •

One event: $30 for members, $45 for non-members
Two events: $40 for members, $55 for non-members
In the online payment, non-members must select the "Optional Item" of the $15 non-member fee.

Full payment is expected online with registration. If you need to pay by cash/check rather than online, please register online, write in the comment field that you will be paying offline, and deliver payment to Glenlake Tennis Center by Open Play on February 27. All fees must be paid before you are permitted onto the court, NO exceptions. Full refund will be issued when you withdraw prior to the draw being posted (expected Monday, March 7).

If you're a current student (enrolled as a full-time student at a college/university), please mention in the comment field. Your tournament fees will be reduced by a third, including your ATTA membership fee. We will send you a different payment link once we've received your registration.

• Format •

Matches will be best 2 of 3 sets; the first 2 sets are regular scoring and a super tiebreak to 10 will be used instead of playing a full 3rd set.
We will use a Swiss Format, which is a cross between round robin and elimination formats. Here’s how it works:
There will be as many rounds in each event as there would normally be in an elimination format: 3 rounds for up to 8 pairs, 4 rounds for up to 16 pairs (not all pairs will necessarily play the 4th round). In the first round, all opponents are randomly drawn, just like in any other format. In all subsequent rounds, pairs are assigned opponents with similar records, so pairs that keep winning will keep playing against other pairs that keep winning, and pairs that keep losing will play against other pairs that keep losing. Because the Swiss format is fluid, we do not know your next opponents until all pairs have completed the round. When there is an odd number of pair for a division, “bye” will occur and a pair may play against another pair with a differing win/loss ratio.

• Criteria for Tiebreakers •

The following criteria are used to determine team placement and standing:
1) Match points
2) Head-to-head
3) Set percentage
4) Game percentage

• ATTA Membership •

If you have not yet joined or renewed your ATTA membership for 2017, you can do it at the same time as registering for The Hooch. The annual membership fee is $30. ATTA membership benefits include entry onto the Singles and Doubles Ladders, 50% reduced rate at Open Play, 50% reduced rate to ATTA Friday night mixers, an ATTA 2016 T-shirt, ATTA electronic newsletters and placement onto ATTA teams for ALTA and USTA leagues.

• Lunches and Snacks •

We will provide lunches on Saturday and Sunday around noon. We cannot guarantee that there is enough for everyone so please plan your meals accordingly.

Bananas and bottled water are available for all players. If you’re watching matches, please be green and use the water fountain.
