ATTA and the 2007 Peach Committee are pleased to invite you to play in our 20th annual tournament!
As always, The Peach will be held on Labor Day weekend, which is August 29 through September 1 this year. Match play begins at 8am each day, and players are expected to be available to play throughout Friday and the weekend, up until 5pm on Monday.
Once again, the draw party will be held Thursday evening at a location to be determined. Come hungry and stay for a while, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. None of that “grab your packet and run” stuff here.
For over a decade, the Dekalb Tennis Center has been our main site. With 17 hard courts surrounding its famous cement pyramid, Dekalb is a great place to both play and watch tennis. Dekalb is “home” for many of ATTA’s teams, and Celia and her staff are always wonderful to us!
We’ve got the Sandy Springs Tennis Center as our secondary site once again. We expect to play there for the first three days of the tournament. The Sandy Springs Tennis Center has been written up in Tennis Magazine as being among the best public tennis facilities in the country. We will be using 18 hard courts at North Fulton and will have access to the center’s clubhouse, locker rooms, etc. The pro shop there is one of the very few Nike shops in Atlanta.
A few years ago, we adopted GLTA’s new age group event system. This system is designed to allow 40-and-over players of various skill levels the opportunity of playing in events at their own level without having to play back-to-back matches. Therefore, we'll be offering 40+ divisions in all events that traditionally have more than 16 singles players or more than 16 doubles pairs. Those are:
40+A: Men's Singles
40+B: Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles
40+C: Men's Singles
The level of play in these events should be exactly the same as the level of play in the other A, B, and C events, but without the hours-upon-hours of match play. To be eligible for these events, a player must have been born on or before December 31, 1967. Those who played these events in past years were very happy with them. To maintain the one-match-per-day format, these events are limited to 16 singles players or 16 doubles pairs. We hope eligible players will choose to try these events.
We also offer consolation brackets for first-match losers in ALL of our events. Trophies are awarded to the winners of each consolation bracket. Format of play in the consolation events depends on the size of the draws and other factors, but most of the matches are standard 2-of-3 sets, same as in the main draws, and all of the finals certainly are. In most years, over 90% of the doubles pairs who were eligible to play in the consolations actually did play!
We are currently in negotiations to nail down our host hotel. Sometime soon, this page will be updated with that information and will include a link to make reservations.
The banquet will be held on Sunday night, at the same location we've had for the last several years -- the Thalia N. Carlos Community Center -- just blocks from Dekalb Tennis Center. Details of the meal will be announced later, but there will be vegetarian options available for those who have that preference.
Online registration is now available. Unless you indicate that you have a free-entry certificate, you must pay using your MasterCard, Visa or American Express. You will be taken to our payment center after you submit your completed registration form. Entry fees are: One event: $96 Two events: $114 Three events: $132.
We hope you can join us for this year’s event!
